Weekend Food Bag Program

The Food for Thought Food Bag Program is a year-round program that primarily provides children in need with a kid-friendly breakfast, lunch and dinner item for every day they are out of school. We also send out various snacks and other additions, such as donated bread and bagels or fresh produce.

During the school year, we work with the Natrona County School District through advocates in each school to target and identify children that would most benefit from the program. During the summer, we partner with each Boys and Girls Club site, the YMCA, and the Rec Center to continue providing our weekend food bags.

The cost to feed a child in need is $5 per weekend, $25 per month, or $300 a year. Take action today! Host a fundraiser or food drive, pack food bags with us, be a school delivery driver, advocate. Give the children in our community the chance to just be kids.

Juicy Bite
Partnering for Healthy Kids

Wyoming Food for Thought Project ills bags weekly to provide children with breakfast, lunch and dinner items on weekends, holidays, and during the summer. The goal is to make these bags as healthy as we can, because kids need nutrients for normal growth and development, a strong immune system, energy, optimal brain function and a healthy body weight. Help us with our goal and donate healthy food today! Here are some ideas on what you can donate:

  • Nuts

  • Applesauce Pouches

  • Canned tuna or chicken

  • Granola bars

  • Apples

  • Dried fruit

  • Fruit cups

  • Peanut butter

Locally Fundraise

As we solely rely on local efforts to maintain our organization, fundraising plays a huge part in ensuring we have enough food and funds to assist the many children in need in our community. Help us today, by hosting a food drive at your business, challenge your neighbors, or participate in a "Pay to Wear Jeans" Friday. Be a part of the solution to ending childhood hunger today.

Food Donations
Advocate

We are very proud to be assisting local children every week throughout Natrona County with Food for Thought Food Bags, however, it is estimated that there are over 3,000 children in Natrona County that are on Free/Reduced Lunch. We are only touching the tip of the iceberg and need advocates to identify more children throughout each and every school. Anyone can be an advocate, and there can certainly be more than one. To end childhood hunger, we need to come together as a team, to understand this epidemic is real, but that it can also be conquered.

  • Confidentially identify children in need

  • Spread the word, get everyone involved

  • Relay number of bags needed for your school

  • Acquire testimonials from teachers, parents and children

Weekend Food Bags
Volunteer

As with our continuous fundraising efforts, we also rely on volunteers to help us get our weekly tasks completed, from repackaging food, dehydrating and food saving donated produce,  and sending out mailings and Thank You's, to packing and delivering the food bags every week. We currently provide around 1,000 children throughout Natrona County with Food for Thought Food Bags, but expect to see a significant increase in this number not only in Natrona County, but throughout the rest of the state! You or your business could help! Whether you have half an hour or an entire afternoon, we graciously appreciate your helping hand.

  • Every Wednesday During the School Year and every other week in the summer

  • Various tasks start at 3:00pm

  • Bag stuffing starts at 4:00pm (usually take about an hour)

Volunteer Delivery Driver
Delivery Driver

The last piece to ensuring these children get their Food for Thought Food Bags for the weekend, is by coordinating delivery drivers to each school. We confidentially receive how many bags each school needs from our school advocates, then setup delivery to each school or home by no later than Friday at Noon. Anyone can become a deliver driver! If you have an open morning, a lunch hour, or time between classes, you can make a difference! Why not invite a friend to help? We always recommend the Buddy System.

  • Clean driving record

  • Spacious vehicle (sometimes you will delivery 10 totes of food bags to one school!)

  • Must be able to lift at least 30lbs

  • Bring empty totes back to office

Donation Drop Site Locations

Donation drop site locations are essential to the success of our weekend food bag program. Not only do we receive continual intake of non-perishable food items, but it is also a great opportunity for the community to become more aware of our mission and what we stand for.
