Weekend Food Bag Program
The Food for Thought Food Bag Program is a year-round program that primarily provides children in need with a kid-friendly breakfast, lunch and dinner item for every day they are out of school. We also send out various snacks and other additions, such as donated bread and bagels or fresh produce.
During the school year, we work with the Natrona County School District through advocates in each school to target and identify children that would most benefit from the program. During the summer, we partner with each Boys and Girls Club site, the YMCA, and the Rec Center to continue providing our weekend food bags.
The cost to feed a child in need is $5 per weekend, $25 per month, or $300 a year. Take action today! Host a fundraiser or food drive, pack food bags with us, be a school delivery driver, advocate. Give the children in our community the chance to just be kids.
Partnering for Healthy Kids
Wyoming Food for Thought Project and the Cent$ible Nutrition Program are Partnering for Healthy Kids! Over 650 bags are filled weekly to provide children with breakfast, lunch and dinner items on weekends, holidays, and during the summer. The goal is to make these bags as healthy as we can, because kids need nutrients for normal growth and development, a strong immune system, energy, optimal brain function and a healthy body weight. Help us with our goal and donate healthy food today! Here are some ideas on what you can donate:
Canned tuna or chicken
As we solely rely on local efforts to maintain our organization, fundraising plays a huge part in ensuring we have enough food and funds to assist the many children in need in our community. Help us today, by hosting a food drive at your business, challenge your neighbors, or participate in a "Pay to Wear Jeans" Friday. Be a part of the solution to ending childhood hunger today.
We are very proud to be assisting over 650 children a week throughout Natrona County with Food for Thought Food Bags, however, it is estimated that there are over 3,000 children in Natrona County that are on Free/Reduced Lunch. We are only touching the tip of the iceberg and need advocates to identify more children throughout each and every school. Anyone can be an advocate, and there can certainly be more than one. To end childhood hunger, we need to come together as a team, to understand this epidemic is real, but that it can also be conquered.
Confidentially identify children in need
Spread the word, get everyone involved
Relay number of bags needed for your school
Acquire testimonials from teachers, parents and children
As with our continuous fundraising efforts, we also rely on volunteers to help us get our weekly tasks completed, from repackaging food, dehydrating and food saving donated produce, and sending out mailings and Thank You's, to packing and delivering the food bags every week. We currently provide over 650 children throughout Natrona County with Food for Thought Food Bags, but expect to see a significant increase in this number not only in Natrona County, but throughout the rest of the state! You or your business could help! Whether you have half an hour or an entire afternoon, we graciously appreciate your helping hand.
Various tasks start at 3:00pm
Bag stuffing starts at 4:00pm (usually take about half an hour)
The last piece to ensuring these children get their Food for Thought Food Bags for the weekend, is by coordinating delivery drivers to each school. We confidentially receive how many bags each school needs from our school advocates, then setup delivery to each school by no later than Friday at Noon. Anyone can become a deliver driver! If you have an open morning, a lunch hour, or time between classes, you can make a difference! Why not invite a friend to help? We always recommend the Buddy System.
Clean driving record

Food Bag Committee
Wyoming Food for Thought Project has formed a Food Bag Committee to help with the behind-the-scene tasks of our weekend food bag program, including sourcing bulk food items, creating the weekly menu, making a weekly kid-friendly newsletter to send with the food bags, and much, much more.
If you are interested in joining our Food Bag Committee, contact us through the link below. There are no requirements to be a part of this committee, and commitments are dependent on your availability!
Family Meal Sponsorship Program
Community is essential to any family owned business, so that's why Grab and Go Gourmet and Food for Thought have teamed up to give even more back to Casper! We have developed a family meal sponsorship program which will provide a homemade family dinner to local food insecure families. Casper citizens and businesses can sponsor these meals by purchasing them at Grab and Go Gourmet, and we will distribute them to families that uses our weekend food bag program. Dinners can be sponsored for just $25, and will provide a family of six with a fresh, healthy meal.

Food for Thought Sunday Partners
Our Food for Thought Sunday Partners have played a vital role in maintaining a consistent income of non-perishable food items that we use in our year-round weekend food bag program. By hosting a monthly Food for Thought Sunday at your church or place of worship, you are ensuring we get enough of each item we need to feed these children in need. Each partner is assigned an item, such as mac n cheese or tuna, and once a month they collect that item to be donated. If your church or organization is interested in becoming a Sunday Partner, click here.
Donation Drop Site Locations
Donation drop site locations are essential to the success of our weekend food bag program. Not only do we receive continual intake of non-perishable food items, but it is also a great opportunity for the community to become more aware of our mission and what we stand for.
