​Casper College students compete in video competition to launch Campus Kitchen

Sodexo Foundation will grant $5000 to the school with the most votes to help fight senior hunger

April 27, 2016 – Casper, Wy – The Campus Kitchens Project, the leading national nonprofit empowering students to fight hunger and food waste in their communities, will host a launch grant video competition sponsored by the Sodexo Foundation. From May 2 through 9, four universities from across the country will compete to win a grant to start their own Campus Kitchen, providing free, healthful meals to those in need by using donated food that would otherwise go to waste.

Casper College has one week to rally supporters to vote for their video on The top three schools with the most votes at the end of the voting period will win a $5,000 grant sponsored by Sodexo Foundation to launch their own Campus Kitchen. In addition to providing more meals in their communities, student-led Campus Kitchen chapters at these universities will create replicable programs that have the power to fix the root causes of hunger specific to their community. In order to qualify as one of the finalists for the competition, students from Casper College submitted a video explaining why Casper would benefit from a Campus Kitchen.

Augustana College – Rock Island, IL

Campbell University – Buies Creek, NC

In the last academic year, student volunteers with Campus Kitchens across the country rescued more than 988,705 pounds of food and served 21,936 meals. The winner of the launch grant video competition will join 23 other Campus Kitchens that focus on fighting food insecurity among senior citizens, and more than 50 Campus Kitchens around the country working to fight food waste and food insecurity in their communities.

Since 2001, Sodexo and Sodexo Foundation have supported student-run The Campus Kitchens Project (CKP) in its mission to share high school and college on-campus kitchen space, recover surplus food from cafeterias and engage student volunteers to prepare and deliver meals to millions of community members.
