What's Happening at Food for Thought:

Public Mural Project

Wyoming Food for Thought Project invites everyone to join us in a mural project. The new mural is designed and led my Michele Heaphy of Pottery By You! Join is this Saturday, September 23 between 9 am and 3 pm for an opportunity to make your mark! The mural will be painted at 140 East K Street on a portable building by Roosevelt High School. Paint, brushes, and instruction provided. More info here.

Seed to Plate Workshop Series: Preservation We will be working in the kitchen all day on Wednesday, September 27, and invite you to join us! Come learn how to preserve your garden's bounty in ways that aren't canning! Play around with recipes for the dehydrator, fermentation, and vacuum sealing.

Seed to Plate Workshop Series: Canning

We will be in the kitchen on Thursday, September 28 too! Come learn how to preserve your garden's bounty through various canning techniques.

Both days of the Seed to Plate Workshop are free, come as you can classes. You have the opportunity to stay and work with us day if you choose, but it is not mandatory. Donations for this class are graciously accepted, and items made from this day will be available for purchase. Visit our Facebook event page for more info.

Food for Thought Pop-Up Market

We’ll be continuing Food for Thought Markets at the Yellowstone Garage from 5-7:30 pm as long as the weather permits! Join us on Thursday, September 28, 2017 for live music and local vendors. If you have homemade or homegrown goods that you'd like to sell, simply show up at 4 pm and pay a $15 vendor fee. It's easy!

Foraging Guided Hike: Morad Park

Join us for an educational hike through nature on Saturday, September 30. You'll learn about edible, medicinal, and toxic plants that grow in the various ecosystems of Wyoming. Pre-registration is preferred and carpooling will be available from our program center at 7:30 am. Meeting points and maps will be provided upon registration. Foraging info guides will be passed out on site. This is a kid and family friendly event and leashed dogs are welcome. This event will be cancelled if we don't reach our minimum registration of 5 people.

Taihi bin turns kitchen waste into plant food using Japanese fermentation method

The smell-free rubbish Taihi bin can quickly compost waste from the kitchen. The bin converts food waste into compost for the garden, as well as liquid fertilizer for household plants. It relies on bokashi – a Japanese method that uses fermentation to decompose rubbish, leaving no mess or smell behind. Click here to read more.

The Real Sharing Economy

All of the organizations in this list from The Zero-Waste Chef provide food for free in some way. Some help divert excess food from landfill, either by enabling people to locate free produce or share what they grow with their neighbors, or by gleaning excess food on farms and distributing it to those in need.
